Al Lim is a PhD candidate at Yale in the combined anthropology and environmental studies program.

His doctoral research explores the fortune-oriented practices of crypto builders in Thailand, drawing on economic anthropology, urban studies, and Southeast Asian studies. An interdisciplinary scholar, his work has appeared in Urban Geography, Environment and Society: Advances in Research, Environmental Research Letters, and The Journal of the Siam Society.
